Royals’ screen time
January 20, 2023
Have you ever wanted to rot in your bed so badly that you bunkered down under the covers for hours upon hours just endlessly scrolling on your phone? These Royals definitely have.
- Julianna Ortiz ’23
Unfortunately, our first victim to the phone scroll trance is senior Julianna Ortiz. Julianna unfortunately has a chronic addiction to TikTok, and when she opens the app, no one can reach her, not even for emergency purposes. Julianna said, “My favorite pastime is turning on do not disturb mode on my phone and endlessly scrolling through TikTok.” Julianna averages at least five hours each day on TikTok. These five hours balanced with school and her strict dance scheldule are deeply concerning coming from a friend. Julianna, (if you’re reading this) the Rosary community wishes you a speedy recovery.
- Megan Martinez ’24
Now, on a lighter and more hopeful note for the future, Megan proves that one does not need the excessive amount of screen time every day. Megan averages three hours per day. Coming from someone who is chronically online, this is very impressive and gives me a glimpse of hope that one day I can reduce my time to this. (I will now be taking a TikTok break.)
- Charlotte Jordan ’23
Senior Charlotte Jordan has also wowed me with how low her screen time is. Although constantly up with new pop culture drama, Charlotte manages to somehow keep her daily average of screen time down to four hours and 30 minutes. Charlotte says, “Although I do love me a good TikTok scroll, I’m just a busy gal. Plus, I have Emma Silva ’23 who is able to update me at any given hour of the day on any important pop culture news I may have missed.”
- Emma Silva ’23
Lastly, senior Emma Silva boldly shares her screen time. Emma Silva has a heinous reputation of staying up till 4 a.m. either watching TV shows or scrolling through TikTok. Due to Emma’s wild sleep scheldule, she averages at around nine hours of screen time EACH day. Now, personally, I deeply relate to Emma’s screen time average so I am in no room to judge; however, as Emma’s friend and a fellow victim to immense screen time hours, I hope we both find an end to this phone addiction curse.
At the end of the day, as long as you are still focusing on important life necessities and school work, it does not necessarily matter how much time you spend on your phone. However, I challenge you to maybe go outside and look into the sun for a moment or two instead of rotting in bed on TikTok.
