Where did I go wrong: Christmas gift edition
January 5, 2023
Aside from the many other joys the season brings, Christmas is also the most wonderful time of the year for the gifts. My Christmas however, was not so wonderful.
Since I am old enough to recognize that Santa is not breaking into my house every year to steal milk and cookies, my gift inventory appears to be declining at an alarming rate. However, this year has been especially concerning. To give an example, one family member gave me a package of Hostess powder donuts… that’s it. Don’t get me wrong, I love chowing down on some donuts, but this gift seemed very out of character for this specific family member.
I also always appreciate finding a 20 dollar bill tucked in my Christmas cards, but where’s the excitement in that? Especially when I am forced to watch all of my younger cousins and siblings unwrap many extravagant and large presents.
After scanning my brain for ways that I may have caused my family to commit such actions, I came up with a few minor instances that may have been probable causes.
I guess one reason could be how I choose to spend my time at every family gathering. After I have eaten a decent plate of food and socialized for at least 30 minutes, you will always find me in a completely separate room where I can finally enjoy some peace and quiet. Having the same conversations with the same people about college and dance team does not excite me. But the last time I checked, enjoying my own company shouldn’t result in a weak Christmas gift.
Maybe it is because I personally don’t give many gifts on Christmas, but what can you expect from a girl who no longer has a job (Thanks Crumbl)?
I would even blame the economic state of the world for my absence of presents, or maybe my family just didn’t have time to go out and buy me physical gifts. But I don’t think anybody is completely innocent in this situation.
For anyone from my family that might be reading this, this is definitely a joke and I still love you. For anybody else reading this, no I am not being dramatic.
In the spirit of transitioning into a new year, I am forgiving anyone who may have slipped up this year in their gift giving and allowing everyone a clean slate to do better next year. So with a renewed positive mindset, I wish everyone good luck in finding gifts for next Christmas.
