Rosary’s committed athletes
November 16, 2022
Every year, many of Rosary’s athletes hope to commit to play collegiate sports. Last week, five Rosary Seniors officially signed their agreements to play on a college team.
Starting off, Annabella Barretto ’23 signed to play Division 1 soccer with the University of San Diego. She will major in human biology and use her dedication and skills to help her team. Annabella expressed her excitement for her new commitment: “I feel like I can contribute positive energy and my energetic personality to the team. Someday, I want to play professionally in Europe if the opportunity becomes available, if not, I want to be a pediatric PA.” She is setting some great goals for her future.
Next up, Sarah Ybarra ’23 signed to play volleyball at Cal Poly Pomona. Sarah has been to a few of their games and had the opportunity to practice with the team during her visit. Sarah is looking forward to her bright future: “The coach has watched me grow since I was fourteen and seen me play all sorts of positions. She thought that I could contribute to the team in a positive manner. Now, I’m most excited to create bonds with the other girls, but I am kind of sad that my school won’t have a football team. Other than that, I hope I can expand my skills to play overseas in a foreign country.”
Francesca McGuire ’23 also signed to play soccer at Boise State University and to study to become a teacher. She said, “I looked at other schools, but Boise State has been at the top of my list for years. So when the opportunity came, I took it. I’m most excited to purse my dreams of playing Division 1 soccer, but I’m the least excited for being away from friends and family whom I love a ton!” This new experience may be challenging, but Francesca can’t wait for the season to begin.
Next, Danica Silvestri ’23 signed to play at Fairfield University in Connecticut. She knows it will be hard work, but she thinks she’s ready. She said, “I believe my coaches have trained me well, and the level of competition I have faced prepared me with an idea of what to expect. I watched college softball games, and it seems like something I can handle and will easily adjust to.”
Later Danica described the skill sets she brings to her team. She said, “As a teammate, I always make an effort to bring a positive attitude with me. Keeping the atmosphere loose makes everyone play better and ensures a good time. For Fairfield softball, I will work to play on the field as an outfielder and catcher. ”
Finally, Layla Langrell ’23 signed to cheer at Cal Baptist University. Layla has been a apart of an All-Star cheer team for ten years. Layla shared, “I am going to CBU because they are the number one team in Division 1 Stunt, and I’ll be competing as a base. I went to a clinic for fun and ended up being discovered by them. It was a long journey to get here, but now that I have the opportunity I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me.”
These Royals are sprinting towards their future at a fast pace. We cannot wait to see what they accomplish in the future.
