Rainy day activities

The weather has changed, and so must our activities. I usually spend my free time tanning or swimming, but with the rain —that’s impossible. Although I love the heat, these are my top five activities for cold weather.

Coloring

Many young children spend hours drawing with their favorite stub of a Crayola crayon, but as they grow up, that crayon is neglected. You don’t need to be a five-year-old artist to have fun coloring. My favorite thing about coloring in the rain is hearing the raindrops fall while I fill the page with my newest creation. I find that the sound of rain relaxes me, and each drawing relieves stress I have.

Watching Movies

Nothing beats chilling on the couch covered with blankets with a slew of rom-coms playing on the screen. You can never go wrong with a Disney movie on a cold rainy day. Also, you can spice up rainy movies by turning on the fireplace and drinking a hot cup of hot chocolate. The combination of the fire and hot chocolate warms my body and makes me thankful that I’m inside my cozy house instead of out in the cold rain.

Reading Books

I usually read to catch up on the homework that I’ve been procrastinating, but reading can be enjoyable —without a deadline. Recently, I’ve discovered that TikTok has a lot of book suggestions if you search for BookTok. I’ve been able to find a few interesting books from TikTok. To me, reading an interesting book can take you into a new world, and the sound of the wind and rain intensifies my experience.

Cooking

Every rainy day, I want to stay home and eat a home-cooked meal. The cold makes me want to stay curled up inside all day. On days like this, I like to try out new recipes and discover new foods that my friends and family will love. If you are with your friends, you could do an impromptu cooking competition to test your skills. You never know if you can cook unless you try, so if you’re stuck inside, cooking might be a good idea.

Gaming

I am not the best gamer, but I like to try new things on rainy days. I have a better experience on rainy days because most of my friends are playing too. Also, it’s fun to be able to talk to each other without physically having to go into the wet, cold rain. It gives me a false sense of reality which I find comfort in on rainy days.

These activities are just a few of my favorites, but there are so many more things that you can do on rainy days. If you don’t know what to do on these days, try one of these out. You never know what you might like. So bundle up and get ready for some more wet, cold, and rainy day activities.
