Welcome to the World of LeClair
September 16, 2022
Meet Mrs. LeClair! She is a young and bright new face joining the Rosary staff this year.
With the absence of beloved history teacher Mrs. Evans, who has taken her pregnancy leave, the history department was looking for a teacher to fill in. This is where Mrs. LeClair comes in! Teaching World History and US History, Mrs. LeClair is making her mark on the history department this year!
For those of you who don’t have the honor of having Mrs. LeClair as a teacher, here is a little bit about her…
Q: Where are you from?
A: I am originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but now I live in Oceanside on the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
Q: Where did you go to College?
A: I went to the University of South Carolina (go Gamecocks🤙). I was in a sorority (Pi Beta Phi), and I was a sweetheart for my husband’s fraternity, Delta Upsilon.
Q: When did you move to California?
A: I moved to California last September. So, September 2021.
Q: Tell us about your family?
A: Growing up, I lived with my mom, dad, sister Nicole (who is a junior at Auburn University), and my dogs: Duchess, Missy, Oliver, Daisy, and Milo (not all at once, throughout the years; Oliver, Daisy, and Milo are the only ones currently living). Now, I live with my husband, Chase, who I met during my freshman year at the University of South Carolina. He is a Marine, so he is the reason I got the opportunity to move out here to California! We also live with our German Shepherd puppy, Moose, who just turned one in July! We don’t have any human children, so we treat Moose like a human baby.
Q: What drew you to teaching history?
A: I went to college for Criminal Justice & Psychology—not entirely sure how I wanted to use that degree upon graduation. Criminal Justice courses are very strongly based in American and even some World History because America’s founding documents (Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, etc.) are the basis of law and justice in America today. Seeing how history has shaped our laws and justice system has always been an interest of mine. Additionally, a few theories of crime and criminal behavior believe that lack of education is a leading predictor/cause of crime. The idea of the school-to-prison pipeline demonstrates that the way some teachers/schools operate essentially prepares students for prison—rather than college or life in the real world. I wanted to take that knowledge from my Criminal Justice classes and do something about it. I wanted to be a part of the solution to crime, rather than going into something like policing, where I would be reacting to crimes already committed instead of preventing the crime from ever happening in the first place. I am also a strong supporter of encouraging young women to become well-educated and prominent members of society—which is what led me specifically to Rosary.
Q: Any memories from the year so far?
A: I do have a lot of really fun memories with my students already, despite being only a few weeks into school. I also really enjoyed the Fall Sports Rally; it reminded me so much of my time at my high school. I went to an all-girls Catholic high school just like Rosary but in Pennsylvania, so being at Rosary helps me relive some of those really fun times that I had in high school!
Q: Fun facts?
A: I play on a military wives’ kickball team, which may sound like a fun little way to pass time, but it is actually VERY intense. We have at least two practices per week that are two hours long, and we play games all day on Sundays. Another fun fact is that I studied abroad twice in college, once in South Africa and once in Morocco (where I got really sick with E.coli, but I still hiked the High Atlas Mountains and rode a camel anyway).
Mrs. LeClair is here and here to stay! Be sure to drop by Room 100 if you haven’t had the opportunity to meet Mrs. LeClair yet!
