Rosary and Servite’s Freshman Picnic on Saturday, August 20 on the Rosary lawn was a success. The students enjoyed each other’s company, feasted on tacos and ice cream, and bonded through games galore.

Freshman Kaydence Ruiz attended the picnic for the good food and to meet new friends. She shared, “It was interesting how we played this game connecting and untangling people.” Kaydence referenced the bonding game played at the beginning of the picnic when students were broken down into groups. With roughly 12-15 people per group, the students had to weave their way through a tunnel without unlinking arms.

Kaydence’s classmates, Isabelle Brule and Gia Cota also enjoyed the picnic. Both wanting to make memories and meet new friends, these Royals said something in particular would stand out. “The [Servite student] leading our group didn’t know the difference between Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj,” laughed Isabelle.

Senior Maddie Hayward shared why she volunteered to be a leader at the picnic: “I worked the picnic last year and it was fun to help out. I remember these events being a bit nervewracking, so I wanted to make it as fun as possible.”

Maddie offered some advice for any freshmen looking to acclimate to Rosary life: “Join clubs that you’re interested in and not just academic ones. That’s a great way to meet likeminded people.”

Maddie’s co-leader, Servite junior Spencer Schley said he volunteered because he didn’t get to attend the picnic when he was a 9th grader: “I wanted to experience it and be with the new freshmen,” he offered.

The picnic featured spike ball, cross-net, frisbee, and dancing. While the event only lasted from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m., the joy in the air was enough to give these freshmen a headstart on enjoying their high school days.
