Not so scary farm?

Last Friday night, Sept. 17, I went to Knott’s Scary Farm . While Knott’s is typically an amusement park, during the Halloween season it transforms into a place of horrors—for some people.

While this idea may be concerning to most… Knott’s Scary Farm is made for Halloween lovers. People in costumes jump out from the shadows to scare you in every way they possibly can.

Right as I walked through the gates, a chill went through my body. The foggy moonlight and distant echoes of screams made my heart jump. The whole place truly captured the spirit of Halloween through the eerie decorations and spooky music. It was like stepping into a horror movie.

At first, I was nervous because I didn’t know how I would react to the monsters. Later, I realized that it was actually not that scary. The scariest part of my night were actually the restroom lines. If you are looking for a real scare, then Knott’s is not the place for you. The characters only follow the people who have make extreme reactions like screaming or jumping. Otherwise, they will leave you alone.

On the other hand, the mazes were a little better in the scare department. At times, even I was caught off guard and let out a scream. The inside of the mazes had all kinds of surprises other than characters: they had fog, sounds, allusions, and more. The mazes were extremely cool to walk through. If you admire the detail and put aside your fears, it is an amazing experience.

While I do not get frightened easily, my friend and fellow junior Anahi Pintado did. She said, “Honestly, when I walked in, I was scared. But as the night went on being with my friends help me out a lot. Despite the terror I experienced, I had fun with my friends.” It was very amusing watching Anahi scream, cry, and run through all the stages of fear. Honestly, watching her scream was the best and funniest part of the whole night.

So if you are in Halloween spirit and like to watch others scream —Knotts is the place for you. But if you are a big scaredy-cat, bring brave friends so they can laugh at you along the way.
