TikTok Food Trends
March 21, 2021
Ah, the never-ending amount of TikTok trends. Out of all the trends that come and go, by far the most impressionable and intriguing are food fads.
Beginning with one of the most recent and unusual yet simple food trends, nature’s cereal. Popularized by Lizzo, nature’s cereal consists of fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries doused in coconut water.
Personally, I went into trying nature’s cereal with low expectations because I do not enjoy the flavor of coconut water. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I tried nature’s cereal and somewhat enjoyed it. The taste of the berries balanced out the intense flavor of the coconut water, ultimately leading to me giving this snack a fair 6/10.
Among its fruity counterpart, feta pasta has also left a hefty impression on TikTok users. The dish consists of tomatoes and a block of feta. TikTokers have even gone as far as to substitute the feta with tofu to make the dish vegan. I followed a vegan TikToker @plantyou’s recipe when I made it.
Her recipes call for:
TOFU BASE:
Extra-firm tofu: 1 block
Cashews: 1 cup
Nutritional yeast: 1 tbsp
Salt: 1 tsp
Pepper: 1 tsp
Instructions: Place tomatoes around the tofu base with olive oil in an oven-safe dish and bake for 40 mins.
After the dish baked for 40 minutes, I tried this dish and I personally loved it. The texture had a lasagna consistency and is a nice warm dish to eat when it’s cold outside. All in all, I give this dish a 7/10.
Next, this traditional food trend has been circulating around Tiktok for a long time. This snack is avocado toast. But wait, there’s more! To spice this up a bit, people have been adding HONEY drizzle on top and I had to see if this was worth the hype.
This recipe calls for:
Avocado
Any type of bread
Honey Drizzle
OPTIONAL: everything but the bagel seasoning
As I did not think I would like this recipe, I thought wrong. This recipe has the perfect balance of sweet and salty (highly suggest adding everything but the bagel seasoning) I give this recipe a 10/10.
Although some of the TikTok food trends may appear questionable at first, we were pleasantly surprised when we somewhat enjoyed the questionable foods and the versatility of the recipes.
