Along with the multiple changes the Rosary faculty, staff, and student body have endured due to COVID-19, a new elective has also arrived to add change to Rosary.

The new creative elective available for the musically inclined Rosary students is songwriting. Songwriting is taught by Rosary teacher Mr. Rodriguez and primarily focuses on the art of songwriting.

Along with learning songwriting skills students also learn how to play the guitar as well as how to compile lyrics through various exercises.

Marlie Machado ’23 discussed being a part of the elective. Marlie expressed her enjoyment of the elective by stating, “I like the class because it helps me to improve the creative process of writing a song. She then went on to say, “I’ve learned how to play the guitar much more smoothly and consistently do writing exercises every day.”

Alyanah Gastinell ’22 also shared her experience in songwriting. Alyanah shared, ” I like the class because it helps me to improve the creative process of writing a song.” She further stated, “I’ve learned how to play the guitar much more smoothly and consistently do writing exercises every day.”

The new elective allows for students to truly express themselves creatively through the use of instruments and songwriting, and provides a great diversion from the unfortunate circumstances students are under.
