As this year comes to an end and the seniors are about to graduate, here is some of my best advice and other seniors’ best advice on what NOT to do for all future seniors at Rosary.
DON’T get 20 hours of detention and try to cram the hours the week before prom. Unfortunately this year many seniors learned this the hard way and had to figure out a way to get all their hours of detention served just in time for prom night. Senior Ava Perez shared: “The last two weeks have been so stressful trying to squeeze in all my hours of detentions from being late to school everyday, but at least I got my morning coffee every morning.”
DON’T drink a bunch of energy drinks the night before Red and Gold kick off. This advice will save you from nausea. Senior Nicole Elliot says: “I had 6 energy drinks and I felt so sick. Looking back it probably was not worth it but at the moment I definitely thought it was.”
DON’T rear end people in the Rosary parking lot. Many would think this was common sense but Bella Florin ‘24 unfortunately did not listen to this advice. Bella shares: “I accidentally hit Nicole Elliot in the Rosary parking lot. Luckily I just tapped her car because I lifted my foot off the brake by accident. My advice to future seniors is stay focused on your driving so you don’t make the same mistake I did.”
DON’T spend all your money on coffee and drinks at Starbucks. This one is a tough bit of advice to follow as everyone loves drinks from Starbucks. Claire Heidleman loves her morning drinks but ended up regretting her decisions to get a drink every morning. She says: “I love to come to school with my Starbucks but I never realized how much I spent until the Starbucks app gave me my review of the year and I saw that I spent $2,511 dollars on drinks! I have never been more shocked in my life.”

DON’T not go on Kairos because you think it won’t be fun cause you’re not Catholic. This is a thought that goes through many people’s minds. However, everyone that goes on Kairos ends up coming back saying how great of a time they had. Sam Nocella ‘24 shares her experience: “I was super hesitant about going to Kairos. I thought that I shouldn’t go because I am Jewish and don’t know too much about Catholic religion, but I have never been more grateful for an experience like Kairos. It truly changed my perspective on life and I had the best time with my friends! I am so glad I went.”
DON’T tear your ACL before Red and Gold. Another piece of advice that you would think is common sense but Senior Leah Gimenez did not follow through with this advice. Leah shares: “I was so disappointed when I tore my ACL and could not play soccer anymore, and then on top of that I also could not be in drill for Red and Gold like I am every year. Luckily the Red producers found a way to put me in the show even though I was in a wheelchair!”

DON’T lean back in the outside lawn chairs. Let’s just say the lawn chairs aren’t made to be leaned back in and Aundrea Velazquez ‘24 unfortunately learned this the hard way, she states: “I have a habit of leaning back in chairs and falling when I do it. I always forget to not do it on the lawn chairs. I have broken 6 chairs just by leaning back in them. My best advice for future seniors is don’t lean back in those chairs!”
In all seriousness, senior year is the best one yet. My best advice is to really step out of your comfort zone and try new things, talk to people in the halls that you don’t usually talk to, and take in every moment, good or bad. It’ll go by faster than you’ll imagine and you don’t want to graduate with regrets of not participating in everything you could.
