This past Thursday, October 10, 2019, Taylor Bastidas ‘21 and the rest of her crew ventured to Knott's Scary Farm on a journey to watch the creation of the monsters featured throughout the night. The theater makeup crew was invited to attend Knott's Scary Farm for free if they agreed to watch professional makeup artists do the monsters makeup.

Knott’s Scary Farm is an annual Halloween tradition where creatures of the night come out to play. Visitors enter the park knowing the frights that wait within. Whether in the park, on the rides, or in multiple mazes spread throughout the park, visitors are sure to be scared by the monsters that creep around. If you want to learn more about one of the park’s many traditions, check out their website https://www.knotts.com/play/scary-farm

As for the members of the theater makeup and hair crew, they were not only being frightened by the monsters, but they also watched the makeup transform the people before them into creatures of the night. Taylor Bastidas ‘21, Nicole Moravek ‘21, Vanessa Ruiz ‘21, Hailey Fejeran ‘20, Cailey Rembert ‘20, Valerie Garza ‘21, Kat Davis '20, and Jene Degrood ‘21 were asked to come and watch the special effects makeup crew create the scary figures of Knott’s Scary Farm. Their teacher, Robby Robertson, was a past makeup artist for Knott’s Scary Farm characters, and was able to get the team into the backstage makeup and dress-up area. Taylor Bastidas stated, “We were able to watch and interact with the professional makeup crew as they did the makeup of many monsters in the park. It was such an amazing experience.”

Kat Davis ‘20 was also able to join the theater group later on and see all the action. “I really loved being able to witness all the people become the character they were chosen to be,” stated Kat. “I can’t wait for Halloween to come around so I can test out the new tips and tricks I learned.”

In the end, the theater makeup and hair crew had an amazing time. After witnessing the magic of makeup and special effects, they were able to spend the rest of that night in the park being frightened by all the characters they had just met.
