Last year the Rosary Basketball Team came home with both a CIF and State Championship. This Varsity team confidently dribbled and scored on a long road that ended with CIF rings on their fingers, and a new banner on our school’s Karcher Center wall.

Last year’s CIF champions.

This year’s team has a tougher schedule as a result of last year’s championship. Mr. Yoon, says, “This year’s team is starting to find their way into becoming a cohesive unit so we can compete in the highest level.” Even after graduating three starting seniors, Mr. Yoon has faith that this year’s team can do more than they did in the previous year.

Even with all the commitments Mr. Yoon has, he informs The Royal Reporter, “I have to manage my time better and have more help from my assistants coaches, but I still love coaching and teaching.”

The varsity team, although experiencing three losses so far, are trying not to let these losses define them as a team. The Royal Reporter and students alike are certain they will bounce back in due time and do well as their season progresses.

School-wide favorite Katherine Goostrey ’20, also known as Kate, is a returning starter this year. She tells us, “As of right now, it will be a difficult season, but its nothing we can’t handle.” Kate is enthusiastic about her goals for her team this season, “I want our team to finish with a winning record, make it to playoffs, and advance as far as possible.”

In their new season, the JV team is also doing well so far. In their first tournament, they won both of their games against Sacred Heart and Ramona Convent.

Bernadette Hartouni ’20, co-captain of the JV team, is very excited to see her team battle it out. When asked what she was most looking forward to, she told The Royal Reporter, “I’m excited to showcase everything we have been improving on as a team.” Bernadette predicts, “I think we’re going to do really well this season since we have such a good chemistry of a team, and we all play to our strengths.”
