On Wednesday, November 29, the winter sports teams started their season with a rally in the Karcher Center. The soccer, basketball, water polo, dance, and cheer teams each got to stand in front of the school with their captains saying a few words about their team and their upcoming competitions. Each team also got to excite the crowd by playing their fun, and sometimes artsy team introduction videos.

The rally was led by seniors Maura Cannon and Lindsey Shank. They were both dressed as elves and made the rally interesting by creating a story that creatively introduced all the sports.

The dance and cheer teams also performed during the rally. Their performances were memorable and showed how their hard work has already paid off.

The soccer team has been practicing for about two weeks and their first game was a pre-season game on Thursday, November 30, at Fullerton High School. Senior Lauren Hansen, captain of the soccer team, stated, “I look forward to the memories that we are going to make with each other, the new friendships, and our trip to Arizona for a tournament.”

The water polo team has been practicing since summer. They lift weights and do pool workouts, which has paid off. They won their first game against Mission Viejo and senior Georgia Vargas looks forward to winning and working hard while also having fun.

The basketball team has a tournament next Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, which is very exciting for senior Becky Obinma, who is also excited to go to San Diego near the end of December because the basketball team gets a chance to bond during a tournament.

The rally ended with a fun spirit competition between the classes. It was a close call between the seniors and the sophomores, but the sophomores showed more spirit and won the spirit stick.

The winter sports rally was a great way to start off the season and we hope that all the athletes stay safe and have fun.
