Hello Class of 2018, this is a message from your Class President.

I’ve decided to give you some advice on your senior year questions about how to deal with stress, senioritis, drama, and the sadness of leaving high school!

To start, senior Jordan Lawton asked, “How do I deal with stress from applying to colleges on top of regular school work?”

Senior Erika Campos shows the feeling everyone gets when they have stress.

The first thing I would say is you’re not alone; everyone stresses about college apps.

Some tips to help you out:

  • Work on applications in the best environment for YOU.
  • Don’t overwork yourself. Instead, prioritize. Chose a certain time frame for just homework, and another just for college apps.
  • Never do college apps in a spot full of distractions.  Pick an apps partner who will motivate you and keep you on task.

Another question I’ve been asked is from senior Julia Gonzalez, “What do I do when unnecessary drama starts to take over?”

Everything can feel like the end of the world right now, but believe me it’s not.

Whether a friendship fell through, or your crush doesn’t feel the same way about you, remember these 3 lessons:

  • Boys are never worth the tears, drama, or stress.
  • Girls can be mean, but at the end of the day, what matters is how you let their words and actions affect you.
  • Quality over quantity. Three good friends is always better than 15 toxic “friends.”

Life is always better when you have your best friends there to make you laugh!

Another common question is asked by senior Riley Hassett: “How do I deal with senioritis?”

Sometimes you just need to take a break from everything in the LEC.

Dealing with the loss of motivation during your last year of highschool is something we all experience.

Here is some advice on how NOT to let senioritis take over:

  • Do not let it get the best of you. Colleges will still check if you are pushing yourself in your final year!
  • Keep in mind all the senior activities we have planned; you can’t join if your grades are slipping!
  • Remember to stay organized; it will help steer you away from laziness.

Finally, the last question I would like to answer comes from senior Erika Campos:“How do I deal with being sad about finally leaving high school?”

We still have quite a bit of time left until we leave for good, but graduation can come upon us fast.

Always remember:

  • Have fun and make memories. School can be stressful, so it’s always nice to spend a day with friends or take time for yourself to breathe.
  • Don’t let the work consume you. It may feel like a lot is going on, but take everything one step at a time.
  • Live in the moment. Say yes when you get invited to take a break–you deserve it.
  • Be grateful. Our family, friends, and teachers have done a lot for us these past few years, and now is the time to really appreciate them.
