Pumpkin spice lattes, chilly breezes, and Halloween Spirit stores everywhere: despite the official season not beginning for another two weeks, fall definitely feels like it is upon us.

Whilst gearing up for this sweater season, you may be wondering what movies to watch to put you in the mood for fall. Below is a curated list of some of the Royal Reporter staff’s favorite fall movies:

“10 Things I Hate About You”

Disney +

This classic 90s romance movie will put you in just the right mood for back-to-school season, dances, Shakespeare, and unexpected romance. What could be more appropriate for fall than paintball in a hayfield?

“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”

Netflix

Once again, a classic high school movie wins for fall favorites. Ferris’s famous saying about “life moving pretty fast” is a great reminder for all of us to enjoy the season and take no moments for granted. September can get kind of dull (without any major holidays and with the return to campus) so it’s a good reminder to take in the season.

“Into the Woods”

Amazon Prime Video, Disney +

What better way to celebrate the fall season than by watching a movie that almost exclusively takes place in the woods? Whilst celebrating classic fairytales with motifs of love, friendship, and loss, you can also appreciate the seemingly endless trees that fill your screens.

“Heathers”

Hulu

If you’re looking for a bit of a darker back-to-school movie with an 80s twist, Veronica and JD are the perfect option. This movie has all the drama of high school with a bit of a murderous flair, leading perfectly into the fast-approaching Halloween season.

“Pitch Perfect”

HBO Max

We’re going back to school again, but this time make it college! This acca-uplifting story is a great reminder to be spontaneous and try new things, because you never know where a new opportunity might take you. It’s the (pitch) perfect reminder for our upcoming club rush.

Honorable mentions:

“The Kissing Booth” (Netflix)

“Newsies” (Disney +)

“To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” (Netflix)

“Clueless” (Netflix)

To complement each of these movies, I suggest a cozy blanket, a cold night in and a warm medicine ball tea. Hopefully next time you have a movie night, this list will save you hours of scrolling through the billion streaming services out there. Be sure to come back later for even more seasonal favorites!
