In case you might have forgotten, this Sunday, May 9th, is Mother’s Day. This is important day is meant to celebrate them and everything they do for us. We can honor and celebrate our mother’s in many different ways, but one common way is by giving our moms a gift. However, there are so many things out there that it can be difficult to know what to pick. In order to help you out, I created a list of what not to get your mom this Mother’s Day.

1. A really crappy homemade gift

If you’re sixteen and giving your mom a homemade gift, just stop. Homemade gifts are only cute when you’re really little and don’t have the ability to get an actual gift. There is one exception to this. If you’re talented in the art world, then a homemade gift might be the way to go. However, if you’re anything like me, just don’t paint a frame with the word “mom” at the top.

2. Cold hard cash

While cash is nice, it’s thoughtless. It’s basically saying “I remembered it was Mother’s Day, but I don’t care enough to get you a real gift.” Moms definitely prefer effort and meaning over the value of a gift. Cash has no sentimental value and shows little to no effort. Giving your mom cash is like paying her, in a way. Being a mother is tough job, and we are supposed to thank them, love them, and appreciate them, and gifting your mom cash just doesn’t accomplish these things.

3. Cleaning Appliances

I think this one is pretty self explanatory. Giving your mom cleaning supplies implies that you expect her to clean more. Mothers already have it tough as it is, and they do not need to add another thing to clean to their plate.

Furthermore, most mothers hate cleaning. I have never met a mother that actually like cleaning, so why would you give them a gift that relates to something that they hate? Giving your mom cleaning appliances is like buying something for yourself. If you really want that one thing to be cleaned, then just do it yourself.

4. Wrinkle Cream

If you even considered this, I am questioning your sanity. That is all I have to say.

This Mother’s Day, be sure to do something nice, but whatever you do, avoid these gifts at all costs. Mothers deserve everything, so be sure to get her something nice and meaningful.
