On Friday, February 26th, Abigail Tice ’22 was chosen to be the 2020-2021 Rosary Academy Girls State Delegate. She will go to the convention virtually this summer from  June 28th to July 3rd.

What is this amazing honor?  Taken directly from the Girls State Website:

“The American Legion Auxiliary California Girls State is a leadership program designed to increase awareness and knowledge of governmental processes while teaching young women about the duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of citizenship. While at ALA California Girls State, they make friends with outstanding young women from throughout California and have a fun and inspiring week they’ll remember for the rest of their lives” (

Abby Tice, along with four other hardworking juniors got the chance to interview for the position. Abby says, “When I first found out I was nominated, I was so excited to learn about the process and the experience of Girls State.”

The application consisted of a resume and a short paragraph stating what they would bring to the Girls State convention. Then, four days after the application was due, the nominees were interviewed.

Abby says, “The interview process was not too intense. They mainly wanted to have a conversation and ask me personal questions. I tried to be very honest, and I believe I presented myself as a good leader.”

After the interview, Abby was called to the counselor’s office and told Abby she would have the opportunity to represent Rosary at the convention. She says, “I think my knowledge about the government and our country will improve, and I can’t wait to see where this takes me in the future.”

Abby’s history teacher Ms. Rieder had this to say: “Abby will be such a good fit for Girls State and the organization is lucky to have a shining star like her as a participant. I feel confident this is just the beginning for Abby exploring her interest in government and politics outside the classroom. I have loved having Abby in my US History class this year and getting to hear her opinion about different topics we discuss. She is so deserving of this exciting opportunity and I can’t wait to see what she brings to the table!”

Abby will represent Rosary amazingly at the convention, and we cannot wait to see what she accomplishes. If you are going to be a junior and are interested in attending Girls State in the future, make sure to go talk to Abby Tice when you see her in the halls. We are so proud of you, Abby!
