The 2020 fall season officially began on Tuesday, September 22nd, but various stores and chains have already released their fall specialties. In honor of the season, Royals have indulged in trying these delicious new treats, including pumpkin flavored drinks and pumpkin flavored desserts. While some Royals had some mixed emotions, most loved everything they tried.

Starbuck’s is home to the classic Pumpkin Spice Latte, but this year, they decided to take a different route. While they still offer the Pumpkin Spice Latte, they are currently featuring a new fall item: Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew. Slightly more caffeinated and slightly less sweet, this is definitely a favorite among Royals.

Senior Elly Esparza described the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew as “the perfect fall drink.” She shared, “It’s the epitome of bittersweet. The cream swirled with the cold brew gives it the right amount of pumpkin spice.” She highly recommends this beverage to any coffee lover.

Unlike Elly, Gianna Arenas ’21 did not like the Starbucks cold brew, but she loves the Pumpkin Spice Latte from Dunkin’ Donuts. Gianna stated, “I can really taste the entire season of fall in this one cup.” This latte is made with Dunkin’s pumpkin swirl, which features notes of cinnamon. She recommends this latte, especially with oat milk.

Alongside these tasty fall drinks, Trader Joe’s released multiple fall items, including some old and new treats. Junior Elena Walz loves grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s, and her favorite product from fall time is the Pumpkin Bread Mix. After making it multiple times, Elena offered some tips and tricks to make it even better.

First, she recommends adding chocolate chips to the batter for some extra sweetness and flavor. Second, Elena recommends cooking the bread for an extra five minutes in a convection oven on a higher temperature. “This should make sure it’s cooked all the way through so it’s perfect for dessert or even a sweet breakfast,” she shared.

Emma Vasquez ’23 also loves Trader Joe’s, but her favorite fall products are the Pumpkin Joe Joe’s, Trader’s Joes’ take on pumpkin cookies. Emma stated, “They remind me of a lot of Oreos, but better.” Another one of Emma’s favorites include the maple leaf cookies. These cookies are also like Oreos, with maple cream sandwiched between two maple leaf shaped cookies. Emma recommends both of these treats to anyone with a sweet tooth.

Like Elena and Bella, Senior Isabella Capps is a Trader Joe’s regular. Her go to fall dessert is the Pumpkin Cheesecake, but this year she decided to branch out and try the Apple Cider Donuts. Unfortunately, this new fall item did not impress Bella due to the lack of flavor and dryness of the donuts.

However, Bella will continue purchasing the Pumpkin Cheesecake. “It’s the perfect combination of sweetness and creaminess; it never disappoints,” she shared.

Overall, it’s easy to say that Royals love fall time. From the pumpkin spice beverages to the pumpkin flavored pastries, Royals will eat it all. If you’re ever wanting to add some fall spice to your life, be sure to try one of the goodies mentioned above.
