As teens, we can all agree it’s hard to constantly ask your parents for money, and with college coming up in just a few years, we need to start saving for our future. One easy way to to this is make our own coffee instead of buying it from expensive places like Starbucks (even if Starbucks is addicting).

Alexys Puche ’21 says, “I stopped going to Starbucks, and just started to make my own delicious iced coffee right at home.” Alexys saves money by making her own coffee and she still gets the same taste in coffee but, for just half of the price.

One popular coffee drink is “iced coffee,” which sounds simple enough, but takes a skilled hand to get right. Many teens enjoy iced coffee more because of the hot temperature we have in California.

All you need are these low budget ingredients:

  • 16 oz coffee cup
  • 4 teaspoons of instant coffee
  • ½ a cup of room temperature water
  • 1 cup of ice
  • ½  cup of coffee creamer (of your choice)
  • 1/4 cup of milk (of your choice)
  • 1 spoon to stir the products
  • Whipped  cream (optional)

Step 1: Get the 16 fl oz coffee cup that you chose to pour your coffee in.

Step 2: Pour in ½ of the room temperature water into the cup.

Step 3: Put in 4 teaspoons of instant coffee. Stir the room temperature water and the Instant coffee for 1 minute or until you see that they are both combined.

Step 4: Get the cup of ice and pour it into the coffee.

Step 5: Pour in ½ of the coffee creamer. Stir until all ingredients are combined and add whipped cream on top for a little extra kick.

Step 6: Enjoy 🙂

Now you know the secret to an amazing iced coffee and of course, to saving seven dollars a day.
