If quarantine is making you miss traveling a little too much, then I have the solution for you. This form of travel is super easy, plus it’s absolutely free. No need to pack your bags or hop on a plane. All you need is your laptop and a WiFi connection.

Step 1: Head to and click on Launch Earth.

Step 2: Decide where in the world you want to travel.

You can explore quite literally anywhere you want. The entire world is at the tip of your fingers. Have you always wanted to go to the Eiffel Tower? Now is the time.

Step 3: Search for your location.

Once the earth has loaded, you can tap the search button on the left side navigation bar. Type in the location you want to go to. So in this case, let’s go to Paris, France.

Step 4: Wander around your location.

Google Earth has a really cool feature called Street View. This is where people upload 3D pictures where you can walk the streets of your location. All you have to do is click the button that looks like a person on the bottom right corner and select where you want a street view by clicking one of the blue dots or lines that pop up on the screen.

Once you arrive, to walk around click the white arrows to walk forward and backward. Use the touch screen to look around.

To exit street view, click the person button in the right corner again.

Repeat these steps to visit anywhere you want.

If you want to take your distance travel to the next level, here are some other ideas for you.

  • You can go on Zoom with your friends and share your screen while you travel. It’s so much fun to virtually visit all of the places you and your friends have always wanted to see.
  • If you are missing the Disney theme parks during quarantine, you can walk the streets on Google earth, and then head to Youtube to watch POV videos of the attractions.

  • Try making food that’s native to the place you are visiting. It could be a really fun way to get your family involved in your adventure.

The best part about virtual travel is that you can go anywhere you’d like in one day. It’s impossible to visit New York City and Rome on the same day, but online anything is possible. Have fun taking these adventures without the risk of getting COVID-19.
