An Innovative Outing at Tanaka Farms

Hayley Johnson, Staff Writer

As we all do our best to navigate these trying, unprecedented times, it is more important than ever to do our part to support local businesses as they take on the challenge of operating amidst uncertainty. One business in particular, Tanaka Farms, is not allowing the spread of the virus to hinder the sale of their delicious food.

Tanaka Farms is located in Irvine and, typically, is open all year, inviting guests to buy some of their fresh produce and participate in family friendly activities. As social distancing practices are mandated across the country, Tanaka Farms has had to step outside of the box in order to continue to provide the public with their yummy treats. Selling everything from fruits and vegetables to breads and jams, they have opened a new “drive-thru produce market stand,” as they refer to it on their Facebook page, open 9:00 am – 5:00 pm daily, where customers line up and shop from their car windows.

Nicole Johnson, a Rosary parent and recent Tanaka Farms customer, was excited to share her experience with their new produce market stand, gushing, “We used everything [we bought] from pickling the carrots and radishes to adding kale to our minestrone soup. It was a fun outing.” It is also important to note that all of the staff is taking the necessary precautions in order to keep the stand clean and safe, all wearing masks and gloves. “We were definitely more than six feet apart, and we used Apple Pay, so they never even had to touch our credit cards or phones,” Nicole added.

With the newfound time you have at home, make sure to take advantage of this fantastic service, showing your support for Tanaka Farms and other locally owned and run businesses when they need it most.
