Everyone’s been talking about college lately. Where are you going? Why that school? Do you have a roommate? Why’d you chose that school? But no one ever asks about the future–what we want to major in and why. So, The Royal Reporter took it upon themselves to interview seniors and uncover their future plans.

Kiren Griwel explained that, “I didn’t want to be a biology major because I knew I wouldn’t enjoy the majority of the classes I would take, so I decided to do Psychology. So this way, if I end up doing Pre-Med or Pre-Law, I’ll have a good foundation for either.”

Julia Lewis has wanted her career since she in middle school, explaining, “I chose my major because ever since I volunteered at an art summer camp in 8th grade, I have felt a connection with little kids and have felt compelled to give extra assistance to those with special needs. Early Childhood Education with an emphasis on Special Ed allows me the opportunity to do what I love for a living, along with some flexibility in my career choice (whether I want to do regular or special ed). Also, my major allows me a job straight out of undergraduate school!”

Maya Gonzales was inspired by Rosary’s own Women in STEM program, stating that, “When people would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I used to answer that I didn’t know. People would then tell me to do something that I am passionate about. I was still unsure until I went to the Women in STEM Night that introduced me into the engineering world. This seminar introduced me to the many different branches of engineering by allowing me to talk with women who are engineers in many different fields. One woman was a bioengineer and worked on bettering machines for hospitals so after that I realized that’s what I wanted to do with my life.”

Tori Reyes says she decided on her school and major because ,”I fell in love with the campus, the location, and the opportunities they offer. I was also really excited to be accepted into their medical anthropology program.”
