Water polo season has officially come to a close. The team has been training vigorously since June with early morning weight training three days a week, two-hour practices Monday – Friday after school (three hours during the summer), and the occasional three-hour Saturdays. As a result of all the hard work, they ended the season on a good note, eager to take on next year.

Sophomore Taylor Bastidas shares her experience on the water polo team: “My experience has been pretty amazing. We have a very unique team bond compared to most of the other sports because of the amount of time we spend together and the hard work we put in. It’s really hard to explain why that is, but we are always with one another and our personalities all seem to fit. We’re a quirky bunch, but it works out because we’ve become family. Our team can laugh at our shared hatred of the Rosary stairs after a hard leg workout, we jam to blasting music on the way to Servite after school, and we all eat more than a football player could. We can have fun with each other in and out of the water, and there is just nothing like it.”

Rosary’s water polo team competed in one of the toughest leagues in the country, battling against schools such as Mater Dei, Santa Margarita, and Orange Lutheran. They also played against top tier teams such as Coronado High School in San Diego. The team ended the season with a record of 10-14.

Team captain Mia Solorzano ’21 says, “Despite our win-loss rate, we learned how to fight and die for each other and became a closer team. We are going to continue to train and fight hard so that next year we can come back and show everyone who we really are.” She is a star player who scored 77 goals and 26 assists this season.

Goalie Alexis Puche ’21 had 196 saves this season! She is very passionate about water polo and believes everyone should try it. She says, “Come join water polo and you will receive a special donut brought to you by me.”

Now that the season has ended, the polo girls are still expected to swim often and stay in shape because summer season starts up again in June. The team is very small and always needs more people, so if you ever wanted to come try it out (no experience needed) speak to Coach Bevins (found in room 204) or just come on down to the Servite pool.
