It’s Christmas time and everyone is decking the halls and getting in the Christmas spirit. A big part of the holiday cheer is watching Christmas movies, especially watching them when you’re all bundled up with warm, fuzzy blankets and enjoying a nice, warm cup of cocoa.

An amazing holiday classic, one of the many favorites, is “The Grinch.” It’s a heartfelt story about a little, green Who from Whoville who finds happiness. I personally love the Grinch and his whole story. I loved the new cartoon version of the movie, and I think many kids did as well. I think the story includes a good life lesson about the importance of giving and, as a cartoon, the movie will make this value appeal to children.

The original Grinch movie came out in 1966. In 2000, the more realistic Grinch movie came out. Starring Jim Carrey, it was a hilarious movie that sold off the charts. The new Grinch movie is similar to the old ones, but has a more modern taste with a mix of realistic features in cartoon version. In total, the new movie has a 3 star rating; the old cartoon version has a 5 star rating; and the one created in 2000 has a 4 star rating.

Even though we loved the movie, let’s see what some other Rosary girls think.

“I have not seen this movie, but it sounds good for me. I plan to see it during Christmas break, and I really looking forward to see it!” says Evelyn Zhao ’20.

“I thought the new Grinch movie was ok, I just felt like I was expecting something more because there are already a lot of Grinch movies so I didn’t think there was anything special about it. I prefer other holiday specials, but I wish that I liked the Grinch more then I did; I also wish it wasn’t such a direct copy of the other movies,” shared Elissa Fernandez ’21.

Savannah Kondo ’22 has watched this movie and tells us, “The new Grinch movie is enjoyable and funny, but probably not for everyone. It’s bright, colorful, and the character designs are cute and appealing. I watched it with my sister. We both enjoyed it very much.”

“I loved the movie! I thought it was so cute and I really liked how they made it a cartoon because the older version with the real Grinch scared me, but I still thought it was really good too,” says Elizabeth Martinez ’22.

Overall, Rosary rates all three of these movies a 4 1/2 star rating. However, what we do know all Rosary girls would give a five star rating to is gathering with all their friends and enjoying any good Christmas movie.
