Thanksgiving and Christmas are two major holidays in the US, and they share some similarities. Both holidays represent the union of family, charity, and gratitude. Upon reaching adulthood, children tend to leave the comfort and security of their parents’ home to establish their own lives; however, they always return home for Christmas and Thanksgiving to spend time with their families. So, the question at hand is: Between Thanksgiving & Christmas, which one has better food?

The food on both Thanksgiving and Christmas is indescribable. We usually have exquisite and delicious food for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Let’s see what Rosary girls eat on both of the holidays and which they prefer.

Marie Medlen ‘20 stated that she usually eats the same thing on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Marie told us, “What I eat on Thanksgiving is turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, stuffing, and cranberry sauce.” She also pointed out, “I prefer when we eat it at Christmas time, simply because I adore Christmas so much, with the decorations and the tree, even though we are eating the same food. I just think the food is simply even better during Christmas time.”

Not only do people have American food, but they also like to add their favorite foods during the holiday season.

Savannah Kondo ‘22 said, “Besides traditional turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, we also eat empanadas, which is an Argentinian dish.” However, on Christmas, the food in Savannah’s family is even more diverse. She told us, “For Christmas, we eat turkey, ham, empanadas, some Georgian food because my uncle is from the country, and we also incorporate a sushi platter because I am half Japanese. Therefore, I love food on Christmas so much.”

Some of the Academy’s favorite foods for Thanksgiving include stuffing and turkey, while people prefer more festive foods like peppermint bark and tamales for Christmas.

When asked which holiday meal she prefers, Lexie Murrieta ‘21 said, “I love all the food on Thanksgiving, especially stuffing and mashed potatoes and gravy and pumpkin pie with a gigantic dollop of whipped cream it’s all scrumptious and delicious.”

However, Elissa Fernandez 21 disagrees, saying“Christmas, because my family makes tamales and that is my favorite food. They are so good, and we make so many during Christmas time so for me, it beats Thanksgiving food.”

Some students are new to Thanksgiving and they have a different perspective on the holiday.

Evelyn Zhao ‘20, who has been here only a few months, stated, “This is my first Thanksgiving since we do not celebrate it in my country. My host family took me to their cousins’ house to celebrate Thanksgiving. We eat turkey, sweet potato, salad, fried rice and so on.” She has not yet celebrated Christmas because they celebrate Chinese New year, also known as the Spring Festival instead of Christmas in their county.

Every Royal celebrates the holidays differently, but what they all share is that they celebrate with love and great food.
