As the end of the school year approaches, many seniors are getting ready for college.

One such senior is Christine Marie Johnnie, who will be attending Concordia University Irvine. She received a full ride scholarship that was awarded to her because of her academic performance.

The Royal Reporter was able to interview Christine Marie and ask her about her college decision and future plans.

RR: How did you know Concordia was the school for you?

Christine Marie: I really liked Concordia’s location and how it was close to home. It was just really easy for me to imagine myself on that campus next year. I also liked the teacher to student ratio because it is similar to Rosary.

RR: What is your area of study and why did you choose this?

Christine Marie: I chose elementary education because I want to help raise the next generation of leaders, just like our teachers are doing for us. I really like the quote by Erasmus that states, “The main hope of a nation lies in the proper education of its youth.” I think it really shows how important teachers are, and it inspires me to do my best so that I can help others learn.

RR: What extracurricular activities were you involved in, and how did these activities influence your choice of major?

Christine Marie: I played varsity tennis and volunteered for clubs like Let It Be, Dream Catchers, Make a Wish, National Honors Society and California State Federation. The National Honors Society is one club that relates to my area of study because I am required to tutor others and it really helps me prepare for my major and career choice.
