Mrs. Jenkins, one of the most recent additions to the Royal family, has her schedule packed as she teaches AP United States History,  American Studies, and World History while being the assistant distance coach for the track team and the Woman’s History Club moderator. She’s been here less than two semesters, and she’s already majorly influenced the Academy.

She told The Royal Reporter,”I wanted to teach history to an all-girls school. That was a very unique combination that I wanted access to. History is a male dominated field and that’s why I feel like this is so important.”

We sat in on one of her lunchtime study-sessions (Mrs. Jenkins is always available to help students at lunch) and asked her some questions.

RR: Have you always loved history?

Mrs. Jenkins: I think I really started loving it in 6th grade. We had to read Johnny Tremain, and I was pretty much the only kid excited about it. I loved it so much.

RR: Fave historical movies/books that you would recommend?

Mrs. Jenkins: Alright so I have a list: Platoon, Gone With the Wind, Ben Hur, Amadeus, anything on PBS, Timeless, and especially the musical Hamilton!

RR: How do you like teaching at Rosary so far?

Mrs. Jenkins: It’s met all of my expectations. I’m thrilled, but too exhausted to show it.

RR: Where did you go to college?

Mrs. Jenkins: I went to Cal State Long Beach for my undergrad, and Cal Poly Pomona for my masters.

Mrs. Jenkins is a bright presence on campus, and every Rosary Royal who has met her says she makes them feel uplifted and inspired. We hope that she continues to teach at Rosary for many years to come!
