There are many great athletes at Rosary, and junior Victoria Reyes is one of them. Tori has been skating since she was two, when her dad took her out on the ice for the first time. The Royal Reporter was able to interview Tori and ask her about her sport.

RR: What do you enjoy about figure skating?

Tori: I love the hard work and dedication that comes with it and how unique it is from other sports. Figure skating really taught me responsibility, dedication, and perseverance by keeping up with my schoolwork and outside activities while waking up at 4 in the morning for practice.

RR: What is the most difficult part about figure skating?

Tori: Putting aside my fear and anxiety when I take the ice is my biggest struggle. I was always scared until I started cheer at Rosary, which helped me come out of my shell and enjoy the attention and overwhelming excitement of competitions.

RR: What are your biggest accomplishments?

Tori: Two of my biggest accomplishments were getting invited to an invitational competition and placing 2nd and also placing 2nd at Regionals all when I was 12.

RR: What are some things you would like people to know about figure skating?

Tori: Not all people know how much work comes with our sport. It’s not just throwing yourself up in the air and twirling around on the ice. We work hard every day. Our sport takes the strength of a football player and the grace and movement of a dancer, all of which combine to make our sport so unique.

RR: Who is your biggest inspiration?

Tori: Even though my dad is not with me at the moment, he’s always been my inspiration. He was there from my first steps on the ice to my last competition 12 years later. He was the reason I started in the first place. It broke his heart for me to quit four years ago, and it will be difficult for me to compete this year without him there.

We are proud of Tori and cannot wait to see what she accomplishes now that she is figure skating again. We wish her the best and want her to know that the Rosary community is cheering her on!
