Over the years since Rosary was founded, many teachers have come and go. Some stay for years and become iconic fixtures on campus, while others seem to leave too soon.

The Royal Reporter decided to interview one of the few teachers that has been at Rosary for more than twenty years: Mr. Yoon!

Mr. Yoon has taken on many roles in the Rosary community, including being the head coach of the Rosary Varsity Basketball team, the AP chemistry teacher, and the Director of Curriculum and Learning.

Recently Mr Yoon has received an award from the Diocese of Orange for his 25 years of service.

The Royal Reporter: How did you feel about receiving the award?

Mr. Yoon: “I was honored to be recognized by the Diocese, and that all the people that I respect came to see me receive this award.”

The Royal Reporter: What has made you stay so long at Rosary?

Mr. Yoon: “I believe in the mission of the school, and I believe that it’s my calling to educate young women. The school has so much to offer, and I hope one day my daughters will come here too.”

The Royal Reporter: What have you learned from your students over the years?

Mr. Yoon: “I’ve learned to have lots of patience and to be understanding that there are many different ways that people can learn. Also that it is my job to get students to reach their goals.”

The Royal Reporter also asked one of Mr. Yoon’s Chemistry students about how he is as a teacher. Junior Yunqi Shi, also known as Ella, said, “He makes sure everyone understands the material. Even though he is really busy, he squeezes time to explain the problems we don’t understand.”

Also The Royal Reporter asked one of his players to give everyone an insight on how he is as a coach. Senior Allison Lou responded, “Not only is he a really good coach, he is also the best DJ ever.”

The Royal Reporter and the entire Rosary community appreciates all the hard work and hours that Mr. Yoon puts into helping the Rosary move forward. We hope he will continue to teach the students of Rosary for many more years.
