Going to the movies is not only affordable, but also a fun and relaxing activity to do with your family, friends, or by yourself. 2017 was quite a year for great movies including Coco, Wonder, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The Royal Reporter asked Royals for their thoughts on some of the great titles that hit the theaters over the last year.

Wonder, rated PG, came out in November 2017. Carina Del Rio ’18 saw it with her mom over the break and had a few words to say about the inspirational, tear-jerking movie.

RR: What are some key parts of the film?

Carina Del Rio: Some key parts of the movie are Auggie explaining his deformity, receiving the astronaut helmet as a shield to the outside world, and in the end overcoming bullying by embracing his uniqueness.

RR: What was your favorite scene from the movie?

CDR: My favorite part was the ending. The movie is overall pretty sad, but the ending was happy because the bully stopped bullying the kid. It was nice to have a happy ending.

Coco came out in November and actually won a Golden Globe for Best Animated Picture. Claire Nicodemus ’19 raved about Coco, “I felt the movie truly portrayed Mexican culture and the story line was intriguing and worth watching. I would definitely recommend this movie to everyone and say that Un Poco Loco by Anthony Gonzalez was my favorite song.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was the last movie to dominate the box office in 2017. Maddy Fetter’ 18, an avid Star Wars fan, had some great insight into the new film.

RR: What made this movie different than the other ones in the series?

Maddy Fetter: This movie definitely killed some very important characters and has an interesting plot twist, but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone.

RR: Even though there were so many changes, would you still say it was a good movie?

MF: Yes, it was still amazing, and I personally loved it. It was different than the other movies, and I think that made it better.
