Two years ago, on December 18th, fans of the world-renowned Star Wars films finally got a new movie after almost 10 years of waiting. Now, two years later, the first movie in the Sequel Trilogy (Episode VII: The Force Awakens) is getting its second installment- Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. The new movie will continue the stories of new characters Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo Ren- as well as touch back on some beloved characters from the Original Trilogy, such as Luke and Leia.

The second film in the Trilogy has been so anticipated by the fans because of the questions the last movie left them. The end of The Force Awakens wasn’t a cliffhanger (no spoilers!), but it definitely left some loose ends to tie up. Hopefully this won’t be a problem for The Last Jedi, since the movie picks up right where The Force Awakens ended.

One element that fans are most excited for is the brand new characters being introduced in the new movie. Laura Dern (who you may recognize from Jurassic Park) plays Resistance Admiral Amilyn Holdo, whose hair takes a striking tone of pink. Critically-acclaimed actor Benicio del Toro plays the shady DJ, whose allegiances are unclear. And finally, there is resistance mechanic Rose Tico, played by Vietnamese actress Kelly Marie Tran. She does most of the behind-the-scenes work for the Resistance, but in The Last Jedi, she’ll get to go an adventure of her own.

And of course it wouldn’t be Star Wars without some new creatures and droids. The adorable white-and-orange droid BB-8 gets an evil black-and-red counterpart in BB-9E. But the thing that fans are arguably the most excited for is the porgs. The porgs are cute little bird-like creatures that live on Luke Skywalker’s island of Ach-to. They’re based off of the real-life puffins (hey, freshmen!) that live on Skellig Michael, an island near Ireland where much of the movie was filmed.

Rosary student and Star Wars super-fan Tara White ’19 is excited for “the adventures that my favorite characters will go through, along with the numerous possibilities that can happen in The Last Jedi. I’m so excited I’ve had my tickets since October.”

Smart move, since tickets will most likely be sold out. But it doesn’t matter if you’re seeing the movie the day it comes out or a month from now, it will still be a very forceful, exciting adventure.
