On Saturday Feb. 11 the Rosary Basketball team played in the second round of CIF against the North Torrance High School Saxons. 

The team had previously beat Crean Lutheran to get to this game and were very excited to compete against North Torrance. Sophomore Mya Barnes shared the mindset of heading into playing the Saxons saying, “Going into the North Torrance game I was very composed and subtle. I was trying to keep my energy cool and at a point where I knew I would be able to get things done. I had great energy coming on and off the court. My game plan was to go out and compete. Just really do the things that I know how to do. My goal was to win, there was nothing else on my mind but winning. I’m feeling very confident about the rest of our CIF games. I am excited to go out there and compete with all the other good teams and possibly win a ring.”

The team kept up their high energy and were able to work together to have the outcome they were looking for, with the game ending successfully with the Royals beating the Saxons 68 to 48. This advanced the Royals to the CIF quarterfinals playing against Esperanza on Wednesday, February 15. The Royals came out very strong scoring 21 points to Esperanza’s 6 points. At half time, Rosary was up 28 to 12. 

Although the Royals struggled more in the second half, the team continued to fight for their win. Captains Allison Clarke ‘24 and Ava Dominguez ‘23 made some essential shots in the fourth quarter for the Royals to pull out this win.

Mary Larson ‘23 has praised the achievement of her team, saying: “I’m really excited to be in the playoffs with this team. We have all worked so hard to make it to this moment and I know that we can take this season all the way to the championship. I am so proud of how far we have come and the challenges we have overcome.”

The Royals are playing in the CIF semi-finals this Saturday, February 19, at Marlborough School against the Mustangs. Good luck to the Royals as they make their way through CIF!
