You go up to a Royal and ask her, ‘Hey! What’s your favorite holiday?!’ You would think that they would say Christmas or Thanksgiving or Valentine’s day, but oh no! 9/10 times, her answer is Rosary’s beloved tradition: Red and Gold!

2023 Red and Gold Kickoff is approaching quickly and will be taking place next Friday, Jan. 27. A week from today, every grocery store within a 4-mile radius of Rosary will be sold out of energy drinks, any swatches of Red and Gold from Home Depot will be gone, and an immense wave of Red and Gold will be, once again, taking over the Rosary campus.

I decided to ask the people that know best — Script Captains, Co-Producers, and Producers — their thoughts about the upcoming kickoff:

Anna Jordan ‘23, script captain, mentioned, “I have been craving that sleepless, manic exhaustion that only happens during Kickoff. Your team becomes your family, and late night McDonalds runs take on a new meaning. I’m so excited for people that are experiencing their first Kickoff and I can’t wait to share everything we’ve been working on!”

Emma Silva ‘23, script captain, expressed, “I think Red and Gold is quite literally the most exciting time of the year. I know at least for me, it’s when I really came out of my shell, and realized, ‘Oh so this is what the hype is about!’ But this year, I’m just really looking forward to giving one last performance of a lifetime, and going out with a bang.”

Ava Fishman ‘24, co-producer, shared, “My team captains and I are super pumped for kickoff. We have tons up our sleeve to get the rest of our team excited for the season to come! We have been making countless posters and have been getting so many decorations to deck out the school. I don’t think anyone knows how excited I am for this Red and Gold season. I literally can’t sleep at night thinking about the show we have and right now it’s literally just on paper.”

Isabella Walker ‘24, co-producer, stated, “I’m super excited for Red and Gold kickoff. My producer and I are so excited to begin these next incredible 6 weeks of fun and excitement. Our captains have been hard at work, and we’re so excited to show the student body and staff what we’ve been working on.”

Producer Juliet Cortes ‘23 mentioned, “Red and gold is near and dear to my heart. It is one of the most heavily anticipated events of the year for me, so I’m so excited to do this as a producer and make memories that I will always cherish!”

And finally, producer Reagan Beuerlein ‘23 expressed, “KICK OFF IS PROBABLY MY MOST FAVORITE THING TO EXIST! The time put into preparing everything is very stressful but it is all so worth it. Seeing everyone as excited as I am for the best time of the year to start makes me feel so happy and thankful. I am SO excited to stay up all night and prepare to completely decorate the school in my color, and I’m even more excited that we are getting even closer to the actual show.”

As a member of white team, I would say that I am most excited to sleep over at Rosary and witness the captains running around campus at 6:00 a.m., something I’ve never seen before.

I’ve witnessed the amazing work that our captains have put in throughout last month. Their dedication, commitment, and creativity will most definitely make this a Red and Gold to remember.
