Rosary soccer has its sight set on a minimum third place finish in the ultra competitive Trinity League, a league that undoubtedly would rank in at least the top 5 of the entire country. So far, the Royals have had three games, two of them not being the perfect result, but with the most recent game possibly turning the tides.

On Jan. 17, the Royals faced the Monarchs in their first Trinity League home game. Although they had a positive mindset for the game, they started off slow. Within the first two minutes of the match, the Royals defense broke down and the Monarchs scored. But instead of putting their heads down, they choose to work together as a team to claw their way back. Instantly the momentum picked up, and you could easily see the drive through each and every one of the girls showed on and off the field.

In the last minute of the first half, the Monarchs fouled in their own midfield, and Madison Encinas ‘23 dropped a perfect ball from almost 50 yards out into the box for junior Leah Gimenez to tap in for the tying goal. This goal could not have come at a better time.

Going into the second half, the Royals were determined to stay on their A game.

With non-stop complaints from the opposing team, the Royals ended up tying the game 1-1 against the Monarchs! Although we would have loved to see a win from our sisters, this tie was huge for them as a team and left the Mater Dei Monarchs with 4 consecutive ties in league.

The Royals play against Santa Margarita tomorrow, Jan. 21, at Santa Margarita, at 2 p.m. Come out and support if you can!
