I know that you guys must have been dreading coming back to school after a two-week break. It’s not always fun to be off of school for a while only to wake up after the new year and be stuck right back in the classroom. However, with a couple of weeks off school, one thing was finally available: free time. Time away from homework, tests, waking up early, or even just being on a specific schedule. Let’s take a look at how some girls spent their free time over the winter break.

Junior Jacee Bauman spent her break making time to hang out with all of her friends: “Since we didn’t have school, my friends and I finally had the opportunity to do something fun throughout the weekdays. I did secret Santa with my cheer team, and after the new year, I also went to the river.”

If you are not vacationing, spending time with family and friends is the best way to make the most of your winter break. Although it may be nice to sleep in and lay around doing nothing, you only get the two week break once a year, so make the most of it.

Sophomore Veronica Mercado said, “During break I spent most of my time with my friends and family. A highlight of my break was going to the Goodwill bins because I found so much good stuff for so cheap!”

Maddie Encinas ‘24 started off the new year by spending a day at Disneyland with her family: “Personally, I had so much fun at Disneyland. It’s nice to have younger siblings as well because I know they enjoyed the experience just as much as I did. We even had matching shirts, but I’m not surprised because my mom loves that stuff.”

Many others also spent their break hanging out with their older siblings from college. Jazzlyn Sandoval ‘25 shared, “My sister and I pretty much do everything together when she is home. Besides always running errands together, we went out to dinner a few times over the break also which is usually my favorite because then we catch up with each other.”

Some Royals were doing a little bit of everything. Melanie Kamel ‘24 shared everything she did and said, “Over winter break, I took advantage of the fact that I could sleep in. I picked up golfing for fun and also worked some days as a math tutor. I celebrated the holidays with some of my family in Vegas, where I went to the largest pinball arcade!”

Our Royals had an awesome Christmas break and are now counting down the days until Spring Break.
