Country songs I don’t like

Colleen Schmitt, Staff Writer

I love country music. Country music is something I have grown up listening to. I love country songs for the simple reason that they make me happy while listening to them.

I think country music is the best because the songs are usually telling a story. There is usually a deeper meaning to each song that you can relate to.

Though I do love country music, there are a few “country” songs that are not my favorite, and here they are:

  • “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas ft. Billy Ray Cyrus

This song claims to be a country song but I do not think so. It doesn’t make me feel like other country songs do. It is up beat, but not in a good way. Though some people love this song, it is not country. I do not like when rappers try to sing country songs because it never works out in their favor.

  • “I want my Mullet Back” by Billy Ray Cyrus

Though this song was written by a very popular country singer, it is not one of his best pieces of work. This song is not relatable across the board. It just talks about Billy Ray Cyrus wanting his mullet back over and over again.

  • “Take Me Home Country Roads” by John Denver

This might be an unpopular opinion, but nevertheless, I don’t like this song because although it is country, it is way overplayed. I am getting sick of it.

  • “10,000 Hours” by Justin Bieber and Dan + Shay

This country song came out in 2021 during COVID. However this song was not good. Justin Bieber is a popular pop singer, and I think he should stick to that genre. This song is just monotone and not very fun to listen to.

When I listen to country songs, they make me happy and I just love jamming out to them. However, the country songs I have listed are not songs I listen to on a daily basis and don’t thoroughly enjoy.
