A cup of steaming hot coffee to soothe the soul.

Some say I’m obsessed with coffee. Are they wrong? Not necessarily. There is rarely a day you will see me without any coffee, and on those days you might want to put yourself first and keep your distance.

Although the borderline unhealthy amount of caffeine entering my body on a daily basis may not be good for me, I think it qualifies me to rank several popular coffee places based on the quality, convenience, price, and consistency of their coffee. If you’re interested in trying a new coffee place or are curious as to whether or not it’s worth your money to go, keep reading—I might be able to help you.

Here are four popular coffee places and everything I have to say about each of them.

1) Starbucks

This one might be a little controversial, so if you are a die-hard Starbucks fan, read at your own risk. Don’t get me wrong, I love Starbucks. I go there probably the most out of all of the places I will rank in this article. Is it the best? No. However, it’s almost guaranteed that there will be a Starbucks no more than two minutes away from wherever you are. So based on convenience, I would give Starbucks a 10/10; however, there are several other factors we have to take into account.

One of these is quality. One great thing about Starbucks is that they allow you to customize your drink, no matter how disgusting it might sound to the worker. However, the coffee itself is nothing special. It’s good, but it’s definitely not my first choice. It’s missing the smooth and unique flavor that you can find in other coffee shops.

You also have to take into account the consistency of the coffee. From personal experience, Starbucks is pretty consistent when it comes to the quality of their drinks. For the most part, your drink will taste the same every time.

Overall, I’m giving Starbucks a 7/10.

2) Dutch Bros

Dutch Bros is one of my favorite places to get coffee; however, they are almost nowhere to be found—at least in California. If I was really craving a Dutch Bros coffee, I would have to drive almost an hour to Eastvale just to get there. If you live near a Dutch Bros, consider yourself lucky because you constantly have access to the perfect coffee place. What more could you ask for?

The quality of Dutch Bros coffee is almost unmatchable. The smoothness of the coffee is incredible, and the flavor is one of the best things that has ever entered my mouth. Not only is the quality of the coffee incredible, but it’s shockingly cheap. You can get a 32 ounce iced latte for $4, compared to Starbucks who charges over $4 for only 24 ounces.

Dutch Bros also appears to be very consistent. Every time I go to Dutch Bros, I leave more than satisfied. They somehow manage to exceed my expectations every time.

Overall, I would give them a 9/10.

3) Peet’s Coffee

Similar to Dutch Bros, Peet’s is definitely not as easy to find as Starbucks; however, they seem to be more common than Dutch Bros. The quality of Peet’s Coffee is phenomenal. The coffee has a strong, bold taste, yet somehow is incredibly smooth and doesn’t have a bitter aftertaste.

Although the coffee is amazing, the prices are higher than I prefer. For a 20 ounce iced latte, Peet’s charges over $5. This means that you’re getting less coffee for a larger price than Starbucks or Dutch Bros; however, it might be worth it for the quality of the coffee.

Overall, I would give them an 8.5/10.

4) Dunkin’ Donuts

Dunkin’ is similar to Starbucks in my opinion. It’s good, but definitely not the best. They have good flavor and quality of coffee, but they’re missing that extra smoothness to the coffee that makes it great. Dunkin’ is definitely not as common to pass on the street as Starbucks is, but it is more commonly seen than Dutch Bros or Peet’s Coffee.

Dunkin’ has decently priced items. They charge a little under $5 for an iced latte that consists of 32 ounces. However, in my experience, they aren’t very consistent. You never know what to expect when you get coffee from Dunkin’. Half the time it’s great but the other half the time, it’s either too watery, too milky, or something else.

Overall, I would give Dunkin’ a 6.5/10.

Any of these coffee places are a safe option to try. If you get the chance, definitely try Peet’s Coffee or Dutch Bros. I promise it’s worth your money. Starbucks is a convenient, reliable coffee place that is always a great option in almost any situation. Although I rated Dunkin’ Donuts the lowest, they definitely aren’t bad. Dunkin’ has great coffee for cheap prices and is a safe option to try. Overall, all of these coffee places are probably worth your money. Next time you’re out and pass one of these coffee places, make a quick stop and try something new. You may just find your new favorite coffee shop!
