As pumpkin spice lattes and sweaters make their annual comeback, the cross country, golf, tennis and volleyball teams have already made theirs. Let’s take a look at the schedules, coaches, and expectations for the fall sports seasons.

Cross Country

Cross Country’s season starts very soon; their first meet is Sept. 3 at Fairplex in the City of Pomona at the Cool Breeze Invitational. Most of their meets are taking place in Orange County and the Trinity League Semi-finals will take place on Sept. 30 and the finals will follow on Oct. 28 at Huntington Central Sports Park. Right now, the Cross Country team can be spotted practicing at Acacia Park after school. Senior Anabella Barretto says, “I’m super excited to be in cross country for my senior year, it’s a great way to start the year off! Super sad that I can’t compete in the first race but stoked for the rest of them.”

Golf

The golf season has not officially started yet, but practices for varsity are being held at local golf courses. The team is very optimistic and eager to start the season. Coach Jeanne Weaver ’82 says, “We see a lot of promise and a renewed spirit in Rosary Academy’s Varsity & JV Golf Teams. The impact Covid had on our Teams is the result of the surge in golf’s popularity.  There is limited space at local courses for our teams to practice, so many schools are creating on-campus practice areas, which we are working on, now. Rosary Academy Royal spirit is alive and well and we’re so proud of our golf girls! We hit like a girl and say it like it’s a good thing…because it is.” The Rosary Golf team is not letting anything get in the way of having a successful season.

Tennis

The tennis season has started  and things are looking good for the Royals. Practices and home games are being held at the Fullerton Tennis Center. Both the Varsity and JV squads have been training very hard and are ready to make CIF championships this year. Head coach Debbie Simonton remarks, “This season Fall of 2022 we have a veteran squad on Varsity with 9 Seniors and 3 Junior that will represent Rosary. This group of players have played in the program since Freshman year and have worked very hard to earn their spot. They have experience in competing both in pre-season and Trinity league matches and are geared up this season to make CIF.” Sydney Rosario ‘23 shares, “Being back with my teammates has been exciting, and I am really sad this is my last year competing. I cannot wait to be with people who share the same passion for this sport.” Coach Simonton continues saying, “This is OUR season to do it. Our program consists of 36 athletes with a JV of 13 players & Development team of 10 that are all training hard each practice to represent Rosary at the top level in the future!!”

Volleyball

Volleyball season is well on its way: As of this week, Varsity has three wins and two losses, JV is two and three, and Frosh has a win streak of five games.

First time head volleyball coach Niloofar Mojab says, “I am pleased with the improvement and progress I see in all three teams. I am optimistic about my varsity team. We are shooting for CIF and are determined to go further than any other year this season. Watching our JV and FS teams play and practice is refreshing and heartwarming. They are the future of Rosary volleyball, and I couldn’t be happier with the group of talented and hard-working players I have on these teams. Overall, everything is so exciting, and I feel blessed to be part of this family and group of young and fine student-athletes.” Varsity volleyball captain Sarah Ybarra ‘23 adds, “We have a young team and we are definitely the underdogs, but we put our 100% into every single game and I am excited to see where this season will take us.”

Make sure to come out and support all of the Rosary Academy’s fall sport athletes this 2022 season.
