If you are blessed enough to have had Ms. Barclay ’94 as a teacher, thank Jesus right now because you have had the extraordinary opportunity of sitting in her classroom. Hour-long classes seem to pass in just a few minutes when you sit in Barclay’s room; there is always something to look at. Whether it be a poster, knickknack, or something written on the whiteboard, you will always find something that grabs your eyes.

Having sat in Ms. Barclay’s room for both my junior and senior years, I have discovered numerous things that I love to look at. I sit in my chair, contemplate, and attempt to process what I am looking at. Let me just say, everything in that room is up for personal interpretation.

Here are my top 5 ratings of the random things that make Ms. Barclay’s room, well, Ms. Barclay’s room.

1. Up first, we have Ms. Barclay’s Valedictorian medal. Now I am sure most of you are thinking, “Wow! Ms. Barclay was Rosary’s valedictorian her senior year, that’s awesome!” Well let me be the first to tell you, that she was indeed not her class’ valedictorian, and the medal was purchased off of Amazon. However, she is happy and willing to let her senior Royals sport this medal on their graduation day and pretend they are just as smart as Ms. Elena Walz ’22.

2. Next, we have the classic and iconic front whiteboard. I wouldn’t just call this a whiteboard though, this is a piece of art used for expression and deep inner feelings. The white wall is also used to quote Ms. Barclay and all of her students; if something you said makes it on the board, go ahead and pat yourself on the back. Whenever you have free time in class, a great way to keep yourself entertained is to read the opinions written on this wall. There is always something new going on up there.

3. Bobbleheads. To be honest, I have spent a lot of time studying these ones, and I really can’t figure them out. I think they are just bobbleheads, but the way Ben Franklin looks me in the eyes really confuses me. These tiny statues sit on the bookshelf on the right of the doorway.

4. Coming up next we have the Christmas tree Barbie. Now this one, this one stares you in the eyes. Some would call this a DIY masterpiece, while others would call this the monster that makes up their nightmares. Multiple beady eyes stare in different directions on this interesting work of art, and tiny kitchen utensils stick to the loosely attached Barbie arms. This one is definitely up for interpretation…

5. And last but certainly not least, this is my favorite thing in the entire room, the One Direction/first communion picture frame! Combine my two favorite things, Jesus and One Direction, and put them into one. What more could a 1D-loving Rosary girl ask for? The quote at the bottom of the frame really ties together the art by stating, “May God bless you and keep you on your first communion day and always.”
