The hills are alive! With the sound of . . . children?

That’s right folks! Not only is Trinitas’ production of “The Sound of Music” in full swing, but we also have many unfamiliar faces joining the cast: the faces of the Von Trapp children!

We’ve brought in kids from various elementary schools to play the youngest four Von Trapp kids. James Riebli plays Kurt, Brigid Hunt and Luci Coo play Brigitta, Tessa Hunt and MaryJane Simmons play Marta, and Lizzie Weir and Autumn Flanagan play Gretl.

We got the chance to interview four of the kids on their feelings about the show so far…

Q: Is this your first show? If not, what shows have you done?

Luci: Yes!

Brigid: No, I’ve only done “The Jungle Book” at my school.

Lizzie: Nope. I’ve done “The Wizard of Oz,” “Godspell,” and I’m doing “The Lion King” also. I’m doing “The Lion King” and “The Sound of Music” at the same time!

Tessa: Yes!

Q: What’s been your favorite part of “The Sound of Music” so far?

Luci: I like doing it when they’re [the other kids] done marching and I go and walk and Captain takes the book from me. It’s really fun.

Brigid: I think saying the script.

Lizzie: I like when I jump into your arms.

Tessa: I like dancing around. It’s so much fun.

Q: What are you most looking forward to?

Luci: I’m mostly looking forward to being on the stage like when we’re doing “Do-Re-Mi.” It’s gonna be really fun.

Brigid: Working with the set!

Lizzie: I’m just excited to do the show.

Tessa: My first time being on a stage in my life.

Lauren: Personally, I am so excited to be playing Liesl Von Trapp! All of my “siblings” are so sweet and incredible performers!

Katie: These kids have absolutely been the highlight of my week: I melt every time I see them. I love each and every one of them and I can’t wait to be their (step) mother!

We have lots of fun at rehearsals! For example, please enjoy this picture of me (Katie Thomas ’22) which Brigid Hunt found, screenshotted, drew a mustache on, and saved to my camera roll. (Photo provided by Katie Thomas)

Trinitas is so grateful to have such a talented and exuberant cast. If you’re interested in seeing these kids in action, get your tickets now at trinitasarts.org for the Vienna cast (May 5 at 7 p.m. and May 7 at 7 p.m.) and the Salzburg cast (May 6 at 7 p.m. and May 8 at 2 p.m.).
