Royal Swifties rise
So, unless you live under a rock, you are probably aware that Taylor Swift just dropped Taylor’s version of “Red,” which was originally released in October of 2012. This release features 30 songs, with a 10-minute version of “All Too Well.” Here’s a look at what some of Rosary’s biggest Swifties have to say about her short film for “All Too Well” and her music video for “I Bet You Think About Me.”
When asking for her thoughts on anything Taylor Swift, certified Swiftie Emma Silva ’23 mentioned that I had “come to the right place.” She commented on the “All to Well” music video saying, “To put it gently, Jake Gyllenhaal better count his days. I think we can all agree that it was visually stunning and that both Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien killed it. Taylor has really come into her own as a director, and it’s by far one of my favorite of her music videos of all time.”
Another Swiftie, Anna DiCrisi ’22, gave her thoughts on the realness of the film saying, “‘All Too Well”: genuinely one of the most heart-wrenchingly honest videos I’ve seen in a long time. It’s one of my all-time favorite songs, and the film was like a capture of actual human emotion. Every choice, every angle, every filter, and every word was perfectly chosen. I’ve watched it almost every day since it came out. It isn’t flashy or over the top: it’s real. And it’s painful. And I love it for that.”
Anna then goes on to discuss the “I Bet You Think About Me” music video saying, “This is a cheeky, clever, and uplifting music video. I am a huge fan of Blake Lively, and this masterpiece proves she is a creative genius. The contrast of an all-white wedding and Taylor Swift in a red dress is striking. The intuitive choice of lighting and plotline? I love it. Also, MILES TELLER? Love him. It makes the song 10 times better (not that it wasn’t great). It also really makes me want cake.”
Also discussing the “I Bet You Think About Me” video, Katie Thomas ’22 gave us insight into where she thinks Taylor Swift is heading next in the music industry saying, “Taylor is an absolute genius. While the song is
undoubtedly about, barf, Jake Gyllenhaal, the music video is an almost direct nod to the man she’s taking back her music from. And there are so many Easter eggs hidden in the video that hint at the re-recordings of “Speak Now” and “1989,” which I CANNOT wait for!”
While Rosary Academy is full of Swiftie fans, these three Taylor Swift addicts definitely enjoyed Taylor’s latest moves in the music industry. While I reached out to Blake Lively for a quote, she hasn’t responded. I’m guessing it is because she wants to avoid discussing her husband, Ryan Reynolds, and Jake Gyllenhaal’s bromance? Who knows? Stay tuned to find out if we get a response from the director of the “I Bet You Think About Me” music video (probably not, but we have hope).
