Rosary Academy’s Mock Trial Team divided into their official positions at their first Saturday practice on September 11. Returning members of Rosary’s team combined forces with past members of Connelly’s team and other students of all grade levels to form the team of attorneys, witnesses, and court officials.

This year’s case deals with the homicide of Erik Smith and a pretrial motion concerning a violation of the defendant’s fourth amendment rights. The Constitutional Rights Foundation (CRF) announced this week that all competitions will be virtual to adhere to COVID-19 safety guidelines, but the matches are set to proceed on schedule.

Mock Trial provides an opportunity for students of all grades to practice their public speaking skills and gain insight into the legal profession. Junior Isabela Gutierrez expressed, “Its my first time but it’s a lot of fun. Everyone is very nice and understanding.”

Though their first match is not until November, the team practices three times a week. This rigorous practice schedule does not deter anybody’s spirit. In particular, Cate Mastroni ‘23 stated, “I’m really happy that I decided to join. I’m looking forward to having a great time and meeting new people.”

Be sure to follow the mock trial team throughout the season on their Instagram @rosarymocktrial.
