This past weekend, Red and Gold was recorded in the Servite Theatre. On Saturday, gold team recorded their production, and on Sunday, red team recorded theirs. Each team’s categories recorded at a certain time to allow for maximum social distancing, and although there was no audience, being able to perform in front of the producers, co-producers, white team, drama captains, script captains, black team, and activities directors made each moment even more special. Having this tradition come together in this trying time was exciting, and it gave students hope for more events and traditions in the future.

Gold script captain Emma Silva’ 23 says her favorite part of recording Red and Gold was seeing the show she worked so hard on finally come together: “I think just seeing the show I co-wrote come together was amazing. To see the jokes we wrote and the dances we imagined all come together was so surreal.” Emma and her co-script captain, Katherine Thomas’ 22, have worked extremely hard writing gold’s production, and seeing the show in its entirety was a very special moment for both of them. Emma shared how happy she is that her hard work has payed off with a wonderful show and said, “I loved seeing everyone in costume and finally getting to say that the late nights on facetime writing were so worth it.”

Gold drama captain Bridgette Sanders’ 23 loved seeing the show come to life on the stage and shared this magic moment: “I was so honored to be a drama captain this year. The most incredible part of the experience was getting to see the final product along with the friendships I’ve made along the way.” Bridgette made some incredible memories this Red and Gold season, and expressed interest in being a captain next year: “I would love to be a captain again. Being one this year was an experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life,” she said.

Senior and gold drill captain Sascha Portero’s favorite part of Red and Gold weekend was getting a great take of her drill the first time performing it and said, “My favorite part was the excitement of doing a really good take and my drill looking super cute and put together.” Sascha says the best part of being a captain was leading her drill: “The best experience was teaching my own choreography to the girls in my drill and seeing it come to life. It was a very memorable experience,” she explained.

Senior, ASB Executive President, and white team member Serena Park also shared her favorite part of Red and Gold this year: “My favorite part of Red and Gold this year would have to be being a part of white team. It’s such a unique experience getting to see both shows and what went into preparing them from the very start.” Despite changes made to the show as a whole this year, Serena was happy to be an integral part of putting Red and Gold together. “As much as I miss being a part of either red or gold team, I love being on white team — especially this year because of all the new changes we’ve made to the process,” she shared.

Although Red and Gold was very different this year, the memories and friendships made will last for a lifetime. As the season comes to an end, the hard work and dedication placed into every facet of the show is what Red and Gold is truly about. Seeing some of my classmates take the lead and make this show as amazing and special as it is was a great experience. I can’t wait to watch Red and Gold this weekend and see both teams’ hard work in the show. Happy Red and Gold, Royals!
